OUR FRIENDS REMEMBERED  written by Marsha Scribner

Norris Steele

Scribner Auction bids a final farewell to Norris Steele ( #111) who passed away August 26, 2010.

Ten years ago when Scribner Auction had its debut, Norris was in the crowd, and he had attended many since then. His interest in vintage items, and a good eye for a bargain, prevented Norris from leaving a sale empty handed. We enjoyed having him in our midst, he will be missed by many.

Howard Butch Bogsti

There have been many personalities in our auction crowd over the past decade of our business, and we found Butch to be one of our favorites. Always easy going, friendly, cooperative, interested and interesting, Butch was a pleasure to have in attendance, just recently securing permanent bid number 42. Big guy, plaid quilted jacket, white cap, quiet smile, kindly nature, and a smoke break — yep, Butch is in the house.

Butch passed away October 10, 2009 after several years of deteriorating health which included dialysis treatments. His eyes showed his discomfort, but he certainly wasn’t one to complain. Butch’s friends gathered for their goodbyes at the Hughenden Hall October 16. It was evident he had touched many hearts in his near 70 years of life.

We’ll sure miss having Butch in our presence. Our deepest sympathy to his wife Doreen and their family.

Ronald Gordon Bliss

We lost a dear friend October 8, 2008 when Ron Bliss from Viking Antiques and Collectables passed away. For years, Ron faithfully attended auctions at Scribner’s. He was always a welcome sight, waving his newspaper bids from the front row. With plastic totes stacked beside him, permanent bidder #107 never left empty-handed. But it was his personality that won us all over; such a super guy! Ron was well loved by our staff, treating everyone fairly and praising our hard work.

His very last auction was a Scribner Auction October 4th in Sedgewick. Ron was in a buoyant mood, and appeared to be having a great time. He left the arena after dark, profusely thanking ‘the boys’ for doing a great job of securing the load in his halfton. The following Saturday, we were expecting to see him at our sale but his chair remained empty. Later that day we learned of his death.

Viking Antiques and Collectables is still in operation, with Ron's associate Deb Hayter tending to business. In the interest of stocking his stores, Ron Bliss was present at many other auctions in Alberta. We are not alone in missing him. We have fond memories of our friend. He will be forever close to our hearts.

Victor Klutz

Sadly, Scribner Auction received news of the death of Victor Klutz, December 29, 2006. Vic was well known to auction goers, especially in the antique interest. He and his friend Lil often could be seen in the front row at our Scribner Auction Antique sales.

Vic became a regular attendee (Bidder #60) and consignor of quality antiques to our sales and through the last few years became a good friend to us. We’ve been in his home, toured his antique collection, and exchanged compliments and conversation. He was an all-round great guy. Vic will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Bryan Lockhart

It is with sadness that we acknowledge the death of Bryan Lockhart, who passed away on January 20, 2006.

Condolences are extended to his family. Bryan was no stranger to the auction world, and became a good friend to us at Scribner Auction as a consignor and as permanent bidder No.100 at our sales. It was not uncommonto see Bryan, between auction dates, arriving with a bag of donuts to our coffee room and joining us in conversation covering any and all topics.

He loved animals and was especially pleased to recount stories of his devotion to horses. He had a kind heart.
We’ll really miss him.
